Sheet thickness
The indicated thicknesses are theoretical thicknesses. However, Steekflens will always use the standard trade plate thicknesses. As a result, the thickness of the blindspades could end up being higher than the theoretical thicknesses.
When machining the flanges (e.g. gasket surfaces), Blindspades and Spectacle blinds can be delivered in 2 (welded) parts.
Welding complies with ASME B 16.48-2010 chapter 4.1
Flange spreader
A flange spreader is used to temporarily push two flanges apart without fully removing the bolted connection. This creates enough clearance to fit or remove a gasket, spade flange or blind flange. A flange spreader can be hydraulically or mechanically operated, depending on the spreading force required.
Frequently asked questions
What is a flange spreader and what is it used for?
A flange spreader temporarily pushes two flanges apart, creating clearance to fit or remove a gasket, spade flange or blind flange without fully removing the bolts.
What is the difference between a hydraulic and a mechanical flange spreader?
A hydraulic flange spreader delivers higher spreading force and is often used on larger nominal diameters or higher bolt tension. A mechanical flange spreader is sufficient for smaller flanges or lower spreading forces.
What spreading force do I need?
The required spreading force depends on the flange diameter, pressure rating and bolt tension of your piping system. Provide these details when requesting advice.
Is a flange spreader suitable for every flange size?
Flange spreaders are available in various sizes, matched to the nominal diameter and pressure rating of your flange. For non-standard dimensions, we advise on the correct version.
